I am Grace. I have a partner and best friend. His name is Jeff.

We have a daughter named Vera. She was born on February 11th, 2008, safely at home. Read her birth story!

We love our animals. Our dog, Maya, is 3 years old and is extremely affectionate and playful. Our rats, Dill and Walt, are fat and sweet and like to snuggle and fight. And eat. Lots of eating.

I'm an activist, an environmentalist, an aspiring urban farmer, a foodie, and an artist. I just started as a volunteer birth doula, and am on the path to getting certified. I'm going to attend school for massage therapy in September, and then I want to become a master gardener. Those are just my most recent plans, but I'm always hatching something. I thought I wanted to go to college and become a social worker, and I was on my way to doing that, but after I had my daughter I realized that I want to be a Jane-of-all-trades and to help people in a different way. I want to become an example and free myself from this unsustainable way of living, to cut my ties to money and modern-day slavery, to make work a figment of my imagination, and to be happy with my friends all around me. Basically I want to do my part to help save the world... I'm mostly an optimist, and I prefer to remain hopeful and change my life to mirror what I believe to be true.
I use a lot of pictures when I post, and I can be kind of long-winded. I talk a lot about my family, my baby, my animals, food, and my garden. I am hopelessly introspective, and I think a lot about how to live my life better. I'm always taking on new challenges and trying to truly "be the change". I strive to be a woman of purpose, and to live my life with energy and love. I like livejournal because it encourages me to write, reflect, and learn about others.

"I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible, to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which comes to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which comes to me as blossom, goes on as fruit." (Dawna Markova)
"I get up each morning determined to both change the world and have a hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult." (E.B. White)
"The good we secure for ourselves is precarious and uncertain until it is secured for all of us and incorporated into our common life." (Jane Addams)
"Go in peace.
Live simply, gently, at home in yourselves.
Act justly.
Speak justly.
Remember the depth of your own compassion.
Forget not your power in the days of your powerlessness.
Do not desire to be wealthier than your peers
and stint not your hand of charity.
Practice forbearance.
Speak the truth, or speak not.
Take care of yourselves as bodies, for you are a good gift.
Crave peace for all people in the world,
beginning with yourselves,
and go as you go with the dream of that peace alive in your heart." (Mark Belletini)
"Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love." (Martin Luther King Jr.)
"so i'm begining to see some problems
with the ongoing work of my mind
and i've got myself a new mantra
it says "don't forget to have a good time"
don't let the sellers of stuff
have power enough
to rob you of your grace
love is all over the place
there's nothing wrong with your face
love is all over the place
there's nothing wrong with your face" (Ani Difranco)
